Complexity researcher Peter Klimek says that a new Corona wave will undoubtedly hit us. And it may even happen before autumn.
A new Corona wave will sweep over Austria “at the latest” in autumn, says complexity researcher Peter Klimek in the “Wien Heute” interview. And that “at the very latest.“ A new Corona wave in Austria is already possible in the summer, and the new variant could cause “even earlier problems.“ Therefore, a new vaccination campaign is necessary to slow down the wave. Epidemiologist Gerald Gartlehner already recommends four vaccinations.
Like Gartlehner, Klimek does not see the end of the free Corona tests as a threat to the incidence of infection. Still, he admits: “Maybe we won’t necessarily find many fewer cases, but many cases might have been detected a little earlier.” The test end is “epidemiologically justifiable,“ the expert says, as long as there are at least other measures such as sewage monitoring.
In general, Klimek sees the current omicron wave ending: “Many people have been infected now, so the virus is running out of wood to burn. On the other hand, the warmer seasons are coming, where we also know that the virus cannot spread so quickly and easily.” If measures such as mask-wearing were also observed, the wave would subside even faster and more intensely.
The Corona forecasting consortium also sees all signs pointing to a further decline in infections. “Meanwhile, case trends are declining in all age groups. The current forecast assumes a further decline in infections and a passing of the peak in the intensive and normal care groups,” says the Corona Prognosis Consortium document.
