Vienna – The number of active Corona cases in Austria is expected to exceed the 100,000 mark again soon. At the same time, comparatively little is currently being tested. On Monday, just under 88,000 people were considered actively infected, compared to around 44,400 a week ago. Including those affected in quarantine, however, there are probably already more than 100,000 people in isolation. Corona-related outages are already causing problems for AUA.
On Monday, 6,398 new infections were registered. Vienna, where the most testing is done, is the first province to have a four-digit seven-day incidence again: this amounted to 1,031. The number of cases in the Omikron summer wave is also noticeable in the hospitals: 729 patients were cared for in the normal wards. Every week, this represented an increase of 178. At the start of summer, this is an unusually high figure. In the previous year, more than 700 people were recorded on Corona normal wards only during the fall wave with the delta mutation on October 19.
48 people in Corona intensive care units
In intensive care units, 48 people required intensive care. There was also a slight increase of 12 patients here compared to the previous week. However, the situation remains primarily relaxed for the time being, with the number of occupied intensive care beds still low. However, the Covid forecasting consortium of the Ministry of Health expects in the central forecast that just under 100 intensive care beds could be needed by Wednesday of next week. Even that, however, would still be in the green.
