Forecast. Now it’s going to be cold! The temperature is expected to drop to as low as minus 6 degrees in the coming week, even in Vienna. It is supposed to get that cold on Thursday and Friday nights.
Even more extreme: In Innsbruck, the thermometer reading plummets to as low as minus 11 degrees on Monday and Tuesday! It is a drop in temperature of 15 degrees compared to today.
Low. The mega-cold is streaming to us from the Atlantic right now. Quiet “Birgit” moves across the ocean towards Europe and brings us the icy air masses. With it in the luggage is also much humidity – at the end of the week, rain and snowfall are announced. It could snow almost everywhere.
These are perfect conditions for ski resorts: Many areas start their lifts these days. Nassfeld in Carinthia, for example (starting on Dec. 7, there is already 50 cm of snow on the mountain here), or Ramsau in Styria (opening on Dec. 8).

Later mild. Even if we are freezing these days, a mild winter is waiting for us – at least, international studies show. A long-term forecast by the EU climate service Copernicus shows that the winter is expected to be “too hot” by an average of one degree up to and including February.
