From today, February 1, 2023, the new Vignette must be attached to cars, motorcycles and light motor vehicles for the highway. The tariff for the annual Vignette is €96.40 (for cars) or €38.20 (for motorcycles). 10-day and 2-month vignettes are also available.

Those who forgot to buy the digital Vignette until today and still want to take advantage of its benefits (no problems with broken windshields, for example), drive to the nearest ARBÖ test center or ÖAMTC offices and can obtain the digital Vignette there, which is valid immediately because the 18-day waiting period does not apply if you buy it at one of the ARBÖ or ÖAMTC test centers throughout Austria.

Keep receipt

In the case of the digital Vignette, the order confirmation, which includes the license plate number, must be kept until the end of the period of use. Still, there is no obligation to carry it in the vehicle. The same applies to the proof of purchase of the adhesive toll sticker: the proof should be kept at all costs. In the event of a total loss or breakage of the windshield, it serves as a document that can be used to apply for a replacement sticker.

The sticker must be affixed to the left edge of the windshield or behind the rearview mirror. The ARBÖ recommends domestic drivers not to have more than two vignettes on the windshield – but as long as visibility is not obstructed, there is no limit to the number.

What does driving without a vignette cost?

Anyone caught without a valid vignette in Austria must pay a replacement toll. For single-lane vehicles, this amounts to 65 €; for multi-lane, 120 €. From the past years, one knows that many control actions are accomplished in the first days of the new Vignette.

The new toll sticker is valid until January 31, 2024.
