According to the Geosphere Austria forecast, Holy Week will be cold and unsettled. On Maundy Thursday, it may even snow in Vienna.
During Holy Week, the weather will continue to be cold and unsettled. There will also be snowfall in the next few days, according to the forecast of Geosphere Austria (formerly ZAMG). The daily highs will be eleven degrees in the coming week; twelve degrees are possible on Good Friday.
The weather in Holy Week is cold and unsettled.
It will remain unsettled on Monday at the beginning of Holy Week in the typical northern congested areas. It will sometimes snow lightly, only below about 900 to 600 meters above sea level. It can also be sleet or rain. On the other hand, it will be mostly dry away from the congested areas, and the clouds can always loosen up a bit. However, the sunniest windows will again be in the south. The wind will blow briskly to strongly from the north to the east. Otherwise, it will remain rather moderate. Early temperatures will range from minus two to plus four degrees, with daytime highs reaching three to eleven degrees.
Brisk wind on Tuesday in the east of Austria
From the north and northeast on Tuesday, friendly first hours of the day will again be followed by some dense clouds, which will gather at the northern edge of the mountains. Some snowflakes are possible in congested areas and the far north, but otherwise, they are expected to remain dry. Most sunshine will once again be on the southern side of the Alps. The northwesterly to northerly wind will again blow moderately to briskly, especially in the eastern half of Austria, and this time it may reach Lower Carinthia as a northerly foehn. In the morning, it will be frosty, with lows between minus six and zero degrees. During the day, temperatures will hardly rise above one to eight 8 degrees, only occasionally up to ten degrees in the south.
Wednesday brings a mix of sun and clouds.
A northerly current and cold air masses will continue to dominate the weather on Wednesday. Widespread sun and clouds will alternate, with the sun appearing more frequently in the west and the south. In the north and east, short snow showers will pass through again during the day. The wind will blow moderately to briskly from northwest to north in the east and foehn areas. Early temperatures will be minus six to zero degrees, with daytime highs one to nine degrees, with the highest temperatures in the west and south.
Snowfall on Maundy Thursday also possible in Vienna
The exact weather pattern on Maundy Thursday is still quite uncertain. From today’s perspective, mostly sunny weather will prevail in the west and south, while dense cloud fields will move in from the northeast during the day. In the afternoon, snowfall will also spread in Lower Austria, Vienna and northern Burgenland, with the snow line gradually rising. The wind will blow moderately to briskly from west to northwest in the east. Early temperatures will be minus six to plus one degree, with daytime highs of four to eleven degrees.
Good Friday, rainy in the east, sunny in the west
There is a very uncertain weather development on Good Friday. Clouds are expected to predominate in the eastern half of Austria, with rain at times. The snow line will be between 600 and 1,200 meters above sea level. Further in the west, sunny weather is likely to prevail. The wind will blow persistently moderate to brisk from the west to the east. Otherwise it will be rather windless. Early temperatures will be minus three to plus four degrees, with daytime highs five to twelve degrees.
