Fuel prices are rising again in Austria. Diesel drivers are particularly affected. Diesel is already ten cents more expensive than Super.
Bad news for motorists: they have to pay more at Austria’s gas stations again, and diesel drivers are being hit. If the litre of diesel was still two cents more expensive than Super on average at the beginning of September, the difference was already ten cents at the end of the month, reports the ÖAMTC.
The reason for this is bottlenecks in imports. These are also related to the Ukraine war. “Especially for diesel, Austria and the EU are dependent on imports. However, with diesel demand on the rise, since the start of the Ukraine war, those volumes that previously came from Russia have been eliminated,” says ÖAMTC.
In addition, there are capacity bottlenecks and technical problems at several German refineries. Consumers paid about 1.70 euros for a litre of Super and around 1.766 euros for diesel in September.
“If you compare the current prices with those of the previous year, Super costs slightly more than in September 2022. Diesel, on the other hand, became noticeably cheaper – but only because you paid more than 1.90 euros on average back then,” the auto club said.
