Scammers prey on unwitting victims in a variety of ways. An alleged iPhone win is now causing a stir. One wrong click is all it takes.
“Dear lucky guy! We have approved your Apple iPhone 15 Pro! Answer our mini questionnaire; you will receive your prize within 48 hours,” reads the lettering of the alleged Media Markt mail. However, this is a fraudulent sweepstake. Watchlist Internet warns against this nasty scam.
As the independent Internet fraud platform Watchlist Internet informs, there are currently a lot of fake Apple smartphones. One should only fill out a short survey when clicking on the link. Then, there are three gift box attempts to win the cell phone, with the final attempt resulting in the purported win.
However, to receive the “prize,” users must pay a small amount via credit card. Typically, it costs between one and two euros, purportedly for shipping. “Your credit card data ends up with criminals. Either you fall into a subscription trap by entering and transferring the amount of money, or the criminals trigger payments and get you to release this payment under a pretext,” Watchlist Internet warns.
