On Friday, there was already plenty of snow in the mountains, and on Saturday, the entire country was finally covered by a winter roller. The snow line dropped to low altitudes so that even the capital city of Vienna was covered in white sugar in the course of the day.

The winter weather is expected to continue for the next few days, bringing even more snow to Austria.

Snowfall will continue on the northern edge of the Alps down to low altitudes on Sunday night, with up to a metre of new snow possible. Snow showers will also continue to fall in the north-east before the clouds clear in some areas later tonight. South of the main Alpine ridge, showers tend to be significantly lower. The wind will blow moderately to briskly from west to north-west, especially on the northern side of the Alps. Minimum temperatures are minus 6 to plus 1 degree.

On Sunday, a similar pattern will prevail: snow will fall repeatedly in the northern foothills of the Alps, especially in the morning, with heavier and longer-lasting accumulations. The breaks in the precipitation will then become longer in the afternoon, and the sun will appear in many places towards the evening. In the south, less precipitation and more frequent sunshine will generally occur. Winds from the west to the north-west in the north, with gale-force winds along the main Alpine ridge. Early temperatures are minus 6 to plus 1 degree, and daytime highs are minus 1 to 6 degrees.

The snowfall is only expected to decrease slightly on Monday. It will remain mostly cloudy, and the sun will only appear in isolated cases. However, it will remain largely precipitation-free, with only a few raindrops or snowflakes possible in the northern and northeastern lowlands, especially in the morning. The snow line will rise to between 500 and 1000 metres during the course of the day. The wind will be mainly light. Early temperatures are minus 6 to 0 degrees, and daily highs are 0 to plus 6 degrees.
