The new vignettes for 2024 are a popular gift. But: in addition to innovations, there is also a trap you could fall into

The new vignette year started on December 1, 2023; this also marked the start of the validity period for the new adhesive vignette in sunny yellow and the 2024 digital vignette. This year, however, there are a number of innovations in addition to the color of the vignette, and these are also important if you either give the vignette as a gift or receive it as a present.

“New to the offer for the first time is the 1-day vignette. Like the 10-day vignette, it is now valid immediately after purchase when bought online,” says Asfinag Managing Director Claudia Eder. An annual vignette is valid for a maximum of 14 months; the 2024 vignette entitles the holder to drive on motorways and expressways until January 31, 2025.

“Seven out of ten annual vignettes are already digital, and the benefits have already won over many of our customers,” says Eder. But there is also a trap lurking here: the digital annual vignette 2024 is available in a few simple steps in the Asfinag toll store and via the Asfinag app. Important: Customers must observe the consumer protection period for online purchases.

According to the European Consumer Protection Directive, customers can withdraw from the online purchase of a product or service; the digital vignette is, therefore, only valid 18 days after purchase. For entrepreneurs, on the other hand, the digital vignette is valid immediately.

The 1-day car vignette will cost 8.60 euros and 3.40 euros for motorcycles. For the 10-day vignette, which is mainly used by holidaymakers, there will be a slight adjustment from 9.90 euros to 11.50 euros. The price of the 2-month vignette will fall from 29 to 28.90 euros due to the new statutory price scale.
The price of the annual vignette remains unchanged at 96.40 euros. The price scale and the introduction of the 1-day vignette are based on the implementation of the EU Road Pricing Directive requirements.
