Things are no longer quite so dusty in the local offices in Austria. Some official channels and official documents have even been transferred to smartphones.

The digital admission slip is the latest feature to be added to the Republic’s official apps. In the smartphone app “eAusweise”, the driver’s license and the registration certificate can now be presented in digital form in case of a traffic stop.

The digital vehicle registration can be sent to your smartphone in just a few moments with a few clicks. It’s surprisingly quick and easy – provided you meet all the requirements.

Requirements for the digital registration certificate
The full version of the ID Austria
The “eAusweise” app
The “Digitales Amt” app (including activated signing function)
Valid registration certificate in paper or credit card format (of course)
How to download the vehicle registration to your cell phone
Once you have ticked off these 4 points, open the ePassport app. Under the menu item “ID cards,” go to “Add ID card” and select “Registration certificate”.
The requirements for digital vehicle registration are then displayed again, after which you tap “Load registration certificate.”

Once you have accepted the terms of use and privacy policy, you will be redirected to the Digital Office app, where you can confirm your identity with a signature.
The digital registration certificate is then downloaded to your cell phone and stored in the eAusweis app.
How to show your registration certificate
If you are stopped at a traffic checkpoint, open the eID card app. You will be greeted with the suggestion to show your ID at a traffic check.
Alternatively, you can also visit the “ID card” menu item. You will find the item “Traffic check” under the respective ID cards there.
Both ways will take you to the corresponding submenu. You can select the driving license (if this is also stored) and the registration certificate there.
A QR code is generated, which you show at the traffic check. If this is scanned by the police officers, the relevant information is displayed on their devices.
The vehicle registration details are also in the “ID cards” menu item. The same applies to the digital driving license.

How to get to the requirements
You already have the full version of ID Austria if you registered your cell phone signature via a public authority. You must go through the authorities if you have applied for the Handy-Signatur via the post office, A1, or another provider. There, your identity must be established by the authorities.

To get your driver’s license in the eID card app, you must have a driver’s license in credit card format. You won’t get far with the pink piece of paper. How you get your driver’s license depends on where you live.

Here, you can find instructions on how to apply for a new driver’s license. You will still have to go to the authorities. Cost: 49.50 euros. A current passport photo is also required.

Registration in credit card format
Incidentally, the yellow paper registration certificate is also available in credit card format. You can apply for this from your insurance advisor, at any registration office, or the relevant state inspection office. The vehicle registration in check card format costs 28.10 euros.
