Austria: Phone calls and Internet will be significantly more expensive from April

From April, the current cell phone and internet tariffs of many Austrians will become more expensive. A1, Magenta, and Drei are increasing costs for their customers.
Last year, prices at A1, Magenta, or Drei were increased by up to 11.5 percent; this year, Austria’s largest mobile phone comparison portal tarife.at expects “only” around 7.8 percent.

Network operators can raise prices (basic charges, service flat rates, and sometimes individual services) during the contract term in line with the CPI. Important: There is no special right of termination. Customers may not simply terminate their cell phone contract due to the index clause.

“I recommend that anyone affected by this compare prices and, if necessary, switch to a current tariff as soon as the commitment period allows,” says Maximilian Schirmer, Managing Director of tarife.at

If you buy your cell phone from a retailer, you can save money by looking for a contract without a commitment. This way, you can switch to a cheaper tariff at any time as soon as the tariff becomes more expensive due to high inflation.

Incidentally, discount providers such as HoT or Spusu, which do not have their own networks, do not have an index adjustment clause in their general terms and conditions.

If you want to save yourself the tedious search through all the general terms and conditions, tarife.at can help: The comparison portal offers the option of hiding tariffs with value protection. More at: https://www.tarife.at/handytarife/ohne-wertsicherung
