This is particularly problematic for people who already suffer from an iron deficiency or are susceptible to it. The absorption of iron from animal products is not affected by tannin.
How long after a meal should coffee not be drunk?
You should wait about 30 minutes to 1 hour after eating before drinking coffee. This gives the body enough time to digest the food and absorb the nutrients. If coffee is drunk too quickly after a meal, it does not necessarily aid digestion but can even disrupt it and lead to unpleasant symptoms such as heartburn.
