Date now fixed – when the climate bonus will be credited to your account

Almost everyone in Austria will receive the climate bonus again this year. According to the Ministry of Climate Protection, the payment will start soon.

“The climate bonus 2024 is coming!” was written on the information letter from the Ministry of Climate Protection, which fluttered into the letterbox about a month ago. Now there are more details: As “Heute” has learned, payment of the climate bonus will begin in September!

“The climate bonus is available to all people who have their main residence in Austria for at least six months in the entitlement year 2024 – regardless of citizenship and age. Non-Austrian citizens require legal residence status,” says the official statement. There are also exceptions.

It is already known that the amount will be increased compared to the previous year. It now ranges from 145 euros in the first tier to 290 euros in the fourth tier. The difference here is the respective public transport connection.

However, according to the ministry, children and young people under the age of 18 only receive half the amount. Persons with limited mobility, on the other hand, are entitled to the full regional supplement – “for this, it must be entered in the disabled person’s pass that the ‘use of public transport is not reasonable due to permanent mobility restrictions caused by a disability’”.

What’s more, people who earn more than 66,612 euros a year will have to pay tax on the climate bonus for the first time this year. According to the ministry, this would correspond to a monthly gross income of around 6,660 euros. Tax is to be paid via the tax authorities.
The climate bonus will be automatically transferred to your account from September – but only if up-to-date account data is available via FinanzOnline, for example. For the year 2024, this deadline was July 10. “If this is not the case, the climate bonus will be sent in the form of Pluxee vouchers by RSa letter (or RSb letter for minors),” says the Climate Protection Ministry.
