An expert has shared the right way to organize your fridge, especially if you want your food and drinks to last longer.

Most people keep their eggs, butter, and milk on the fridge door, but this is far from right.

Eggs, butter, and milk should never be kept in the fridge; they must be stored at consistently cool temperatures.

Most importantly, do not store butter in the so-called butter compartment. Once you hear the reason, you’ll never do it again.

The fridge door is, in fact, the warmest part of the fridge, as opening and closing it raises the average temperature.

Instead, milk and butter should be stored at the back on the bottom or middle shelf, where the fridge is the coldest.
Melissa Coghlan, an organization expert, explains this. The fridge door is warmer than the rest of the fridge.

“Most people will find that the coldest area is at the back of the fridge because when you open the door, the warm air reaches the front first,” says Chris Beasley from Smart Cover.

By organizing your fridge according to the experts’ recommendations, you can save money and keep your food fresher for longer.

Other foods and drinks

“Condiments and sauces tend to have a longer shelf life and don’t need to be kept at a certain temperature in the fridge, so they’re usually fine in the door or on the top shelf,” explains Chris Beasley, adding:

“The same goes for bottled drinks. They are easier to store and reach if they are also at the door.”

The fridge door is the best place for mayonnaise, ketchup, juice, lemonade, open jars of jam and other condiments.
