In the heart of Austria, a vibrant celebration of Filipino art and culture unfolds every year at the KUBŌ festival. This annual event brings together young Filipinos from the European Diaspora to showcase their talents, explore their cultural heritage, and connect with fellow creatives in a dynamic and immersive setting.

KUBŌ debuted in 2022 with 600 enthusiastic participants who came together to delve into their rich cultural identity. Building on this success, KUBŌ23 welcomed 900 guests and participants, setting the stage for a growing community of artists, musicians, dancers, and cultural enthusiasts.

Named after the traditional Filipino hut, KUBŌ is more than just a festival. It is a platform for collaboration, partnership, and camaraderie among organizations, communities, friends, and individuals interested in Filipino culture in Austria and beyond. This year, the festival’s “Creating Legacy” theme highlights the importance of the second and third generations contributing to society and having a lasting impact on future generations.

The upcoming KUBŌ24 promises to be a spectacular event. Around 800 attendees and 100 participants from Austria and international locations are expected, both in person and through live streams. The festival will feature diverse activities, from contemporary dance performances and live music to workshops, panel discussions, and art exhibitions that will captivate and inspire audiences.

One cannot talk about Filipino culture without mentioning the authentic and mouth-watering Filipino cuisine that will be a festival highlight. Attendees can indulge in traditional dishes that showcase the flavors and culinary traditions of the Philippines, adding a taste of home to the vibrant atmosphere of KUBŌ.

Behind the success of KUBŌ is the dedicated collaboration with key partners, including Wien 3420 Aspern Development AG, VHS Donaustadt-Kulturgarage, and the Department of Cultural Affairs MA7 of the City of Vienna. These partnerships have helped elevate the festival and establish it as a prominent cultural event in the city of Vienna.

KUBŌ is a community initiative spearheaded by SENTRO, the Center for Austrian and Filipino Culture and Languages, a non-profit organization committed to promoting cultural exchange between Austria and the Philippines. Through KUBŌ, SENTRO provides a platform for young Filipinos in the European Diaspora to express themselves, connect with their roots, and contribute to the cultural tapestry of Austria.

As KUBŌ continues to grow and evolve, it celebrates Filipino art and culture and reflects the spirit of Bayanihan, the Filipino tradition of community unity and cooperation. Through creativity, collaboration, and a shared love for their heritage, the young Filipinos of the European Diaspora are building a legacy that will endure for generations.
