Alkaline foods can boost your health and counteract acidosis. Following an acid-alkaline diet, you should eat 80 percent alkaline foods to balance your metabolism.
What are alkaline foods?
When food is metabolized, different amounts of acids or bases are produced. Depending on which foods you eat, the body has to neutralize the acids and bases produced to keep the pH value in the blood constant. Alkalizing foods include mineral-rich foods such as fruit, vegetables, and herbs. In everyday life, however, most people eat acid-forming foods such as sweets, fast food, meat, fish, sausage, cheese, cereals, coffee, and alcohol, meaning that at least half of all people suffer from hyperacidity.
With an alkaline diet, you reduce acid-forming foods and include lots of alkaline foods in your diet instead. Over time, an alkaline diet can gradually de-acidify the body, and you will feel more energetic and alert again.
Spinach
This green vegetable is one of the top alkalizing foods. Spinach not only contains plenty of iron but also vitamins C and E, potassium, and magnesium. However, acid-forming amino acids are not found here, making this alkaline food perfect for the acid-alkaline diet. Other green vegetables, such as kale, leaf lettuce, and savoy cabbage, are good alkaline foods.
Parsley
Alkalizing parsley is the best source of potassium of all culinary herbs. Parsley is a great detoxifier that promotes elimination via the kidneys and intestines. At the same time, it acts as an anti-inflammatory healer for the digestive system and even protects the lungs from carcinogenic substances.
Potatoes
Potatoes are not only particularly versatile, they are also good for our acid-base balance. They are rich in vitamins and minerals and also contain valuable vegetable protein.
Raisins
Dried grapes are also among the most alkaline foods because they are one of the best sources of potassium. This allows the acid in our body to be neutralized quickly.
Bananas
These energy-rich, filling foods are versatile in dishes and the perfect snack on their own. Bananas have a clear alkaline value and are, therefore, an essential part of an alkaline diet.
Carrots
Young carrots should be on your plate more often. The colorful carrot provides lots of vitamins and fiber, both raw and cooked. The green leaves of carrots also have an alkalizing effect and are edible.
Fennel
The white-green tubers have a calming effect on the stomach and are particularly suitable for an alkaline diet.
Cucumbers
Despite their high water content, cucumbers provide plenty of vitamins and alkaline minerals. However, these minerals are mainly found in and under the skin. To get the full alkalizing effect, it is, therefore, best to eat unpeeled cucumbers and ensure they are organic.
Kohlrabi
Although this vegetable is special and doesn’t taste good to everyone, it’s just for anyone who wants to eat a consciously alkaline diet. As with carrots, the green leaves are edible and have an alkalizing effect.
Rocket salad
Rocket is delicious as a salad and on dishes such as tarte flambée, pizza, and tart. Its mustard oils have a healing effect, and Rocket is also rich in folic acid, which can prevent cardiovascular diseases and dementia, among other things.
