What looks like a simple “B” is the combination of two ancient Norse runes representing H and B. These initials stand for Harold Gormsson, known as Harald Bluetooth. He was the Danish king who went down in history for the unification of Norway and Denmark.
The developers Sven Mattisson and Jim Kardach agreed on the name over 25 years ago to symbolize the connection between two devices intended to recall the historical role of the king. Incidentally, the origin of the nickname “Blue Tooth” could be due to the King’s rotten tooth or his fondness for blueberries.
However, the choice of name for the “Bluetooth” technology was originally only intended as an interim solution and not a permanent name. Nevertheless, since its introduction in 1998, Bluetooth has become an indispensable feature that makes life easier for millions worldwide.
