Every year again: Even if you have firmly resolved to have done all the important shopping by Christmas, you can always forget something. After all, the pre-Christmas stress should not be underestimated.
Whether it’s a few last presents or missing groceries for the holidays, local retailers have the following opening hours on 24 December.

Generally, shops are open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve. This is because workers are employed; therefore, regular working hours end at 1 p.m. on 24 December.
However, confectionery shops and flower stores can stay open until 6 p.m. on 24 December. The sale of the last Christmas trees continues until 8:00 p.m. Pharmacies, on the other hand, close their doors at noon.
Christmas Day (25 December) and St. Stephen’s Day (26 December) are public holidays, so retailers are generally closed.
As is often the case, supermarket branches at train stations and airports are exceptions. In Vienna, specifically the Billa locations at Praterstern (open on 26 December from 06:00 to 22:00), at Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof (open on 26 December from 06:00 to 22:00), and the Minimarkt at Westbahnhof (25 December from 08:00 to 21:00 and 26 December from 08:00 to 22:00).

The Billa opening hours at Vienna-Schwechat Airport are as follows:
Terminal 1:

24.12.: 05.30-17.00
25.12.: 05.30-20.00
26.12.: 05.30-20.00
Airport, Gst. 611/1:
24.12.: 06.30-13.00
25.12.: 10.00-22.00
26.12.: 06.30-22.00

Good to know: Spar Express stores are open all day and offer shopping assistance on public holidays. Petrol stations, however, stay open just as long on 24 December as on other public holidays or Sundays. 24-hour petrol stations, on the other hand, are open around the clock over Christmas.
You should also take note of Wiener Linien’s special timetables during the Christmas holidays.
Another preview for the last day of the year: The general opening hours on 31 December are as follows:
General from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Food from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Confectionery, natural flowers, and New Year’s Eve items from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
