The weekend, in particular, promises early summer temperatures, but it will remain windy in places and slightly rainy at times.

There will be lots of clouds again on Wednesday, but hardly any rain

On Wednesday, Austria will remain under the influence of a cool northerly current. However, an area of high pressure from the west will bring somewhat more stable air masses.

The day will be quite cloudy overall. Only occasionally will the sun break through the dense cloud cover. Mostly, it will remain dry. Only along the main Alpine ridge may there be a little rain, and at higher altitudes (above 1500 meters), there may be a little snow.

The day will be friendliest in Vorarlberg, where you can look forward to a few hours of sunshine. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from the northwest. Temperatures will reach highs between 9 and 16 degrees Celsius.

Light rain in the north and east

On Thursday, the north and east of Austria will remain rather cloudy. Light rain, especially in the first half of the day, is to be expected between the Waldviertel (Lower Austria) and northern Burgenland.

In the afternoon, the precipitation will move a bit further southwest to the northern edge of the Alps, from the Tyrolean lowlands to the Mostviertel (Lower Austria/Upper Austria). The snow line will rise from around 1000 to around 1500 meters over the course of the day.

However, Vorarlberg and the southwest will remain sunny. In the east, the northwesterly wind will freshen noticeably and reach strong gusts at times. Temperatures will rise to between 10 and 19 degrees Celsius.

Friday will be sunny and much warmer again

Friday will bring a noticeable rise in temperatures. The day begins with plenty of sunshine, especially in western Austria. From midday onwards, extensive cloud fields will move in from the northeast. In eastern Austria—especially in Lower Austria and Vienna—light rain is to be expected in the afternoon.

However, from the Lake Constance area (Vorarlberg) to Carinthia, it will remain sunny throughout. The wind will blow from the west to northwest and be brisk to strong. Stormy gusts are also possible in the east.

The Alpine valleys may still be slightly frosty in the morning. During the day, temperatures will rise to 14 to 22 degrees, with 3 to 8 degrees measured at 2000 meters above sea level.

Warm and sunny weekend

Saturday will bring early summer weather. The sun will shine in large parts of the country, with only occasional thick clouds in the east. The wind will be moderate to brisk, shifting from northwest to south as the day progresses. Temperatures will reach a pleasant 16 to 23 degrees. In the west, local temperatures of up to 25 degrees are possible.

Sunday: Changeable with sunshine and isolated rain showers

It will remain warm on Sunday, with a southerly foehn in places. Despite variable cloud cover, there will also be hours of sunshine in many regions. More clouds will move in from the south as the day progresses. Scattered rain showers are possible during the afternoon, especially in Upper Carinthia (southern Austria) and along the northern edge of the Alps.

The wind will mostly blow from the south and will be strong at times. Maximum temperatures will be between 18 and 25 degrees. In the southwest—for example, in parts of Carinthia or East Tyrol—it will remain somewhat cooler, and the sun will shine the least.

Monday: Stormy southerly foehn and partly wet weather

Strong to stormy southerly foehn is expected on Monday. Clouds will predominate, but there will be occasional sunshine, especially along the northern side of the Alps and in the east. Rain is expected sometimes south of the main Alpine ridge (for example, in South Tyrol or Carinthia). In the country’s southwest, temperatures will remain slightly lower at around 15 degrees. Otherwise, it will be much warmer again at 18 to 25 degrees.
