After a cool May, June is off to a very summery start. The sun should be shining brightly in most of Austria this coming weekend. The weather experts at Geosphere Austria are forecasting temperatures of up to 32 degrees on Sunday. An early summer start to June.
On Friday, sunshine will dominate in the west and south of Austria during the day, and it will remain mostly dry. In Vorarlberg and Tyrol, it will also be mostly cloudless. Further north and east, there will still be some clouds and light rain at times, especially in Lower Austria. The wind will pick up again and blow moderately, often briskly, from westerly directions in Upper and Lower Austria. Early temperatures will range from 7 to 13 degrees, with daytime highs between 20 and 29 degrees.
Up to 31 degrees on Saturday
Sunshine will predominate on Saturday, although a few spring clouds are expected to form during the day. In the mountains and north of the Danube, isolated showers cannot be completely ruled out. In general, however, the tendency to shower will remain low. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from northerly directions. Early temperatures range from 7 to 15 degrees, with daytime highs of 24 to 31 degrees.
Initially, the sun will shine in many places on Sunday. Only in the west will there be a few rain showers in the morning. These will spread to the eastern half of Austria as the day progresses. However, the main focus of the precipitation will be between the Tyrolean lowlands and Lungau. At the same time, larger cumulus clouds will form, especially in the mountains and hills, and the risk of thunderstorms will increase. However, the sun will often shine in between. It will stay dry the longest in the eastern lowlands. The wind will blow weakly to moderately from various directions. Early temperatures will range from 10 to 16 degrees, with daytime highs of 25 to 32 degrees. The highest temperatures are expected in the Far East.
Sun, rain, and thunderstorms at the start of the week
The new week will start quite sunny with only a few clouds. However, denser cloud fields will soon move in from the west on Monday, and widespread clouds will form. Especially in the mountains, thundery rain showers will fall, which could be intense in places. The longest dry spells will be in the northeast. The wind will blow mostly weak to moderate from various directions. Early temperatures will climb to 11 to 17 degrees, with daytime highs of 23 to 30 degrees.
On Tuesday, the last rainfall is expected to subside in the first half of the day, and the sun will likely shine. At the same time, some spring clouds will develop, increasing the tendency for showers from midday, especially between Styria and Vorarlberg. Thunderstorms are also possible. The wind will be mostly weak to moderate, with moderate to brisk conditions in the west and south, coming from southerly directions. Early morning temperatures will range from 11 to 17 degrees, and during the day, they will rise to 23 to 27 degrees.
