In line with Republic Act 8491, also known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, the days from May 28 to June 12 are officially recognized as Flag Days. This two-week period calls on all Filipinos—whether in government offices, schools, private businesses, or their own homes—to proudly display the Philippine flag.
The law isn’t just a formality. It’s a call to recognize the importance of our national symbol, the flag that represents the courage, history, and identity of the Filipino people. The period begins on May 28, the date of the 1898 Battle of Alapan where the flag was first unfurled in victory, and culminates on June 12, the anniversary of Philippine Independence.
This year, we celebrate the 127th anniversary of that historic declaration. It’s a timely reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom and the shared responsibility to protect it. By displaying the flag, we don’t just follow a law—we participate in a nationwide expression of unity and patriotism.
Let’s take part. Hang the flag with pride. Teach the younger generation why it matters. Whether you’re in a city office or a remote barangay, this act connects us all to a shared heritage and future.
From May 28 to June 12, let our colors wave—bold, high, and full of meaning.
