A hot air current from southwestern Europe is expected to spread across large parts of western Europe over the weekend. Initially, it will be very hot in France and Germany in particular—this weather situation will also affect Austria at the weekend.

Extreme heat rolls in: over 35 degrees
Heat peak. The heat will also reach Austria at the beginning of next week. The temperature rise is noticeable throughout the country, with temperatures exceeding 30 degrees expected in many areas. Eastern Austria is particularly affected—temperatures could even rise to 37 degrees on Monday.

The exact duration of this heatwave cannot yet be predicted. It depends on how the area of high pressure over Central Europe develops.

Focus on Villach as the hottest place. So far, the Austrian high for 2025 of 34.9 degrees Celsius was measured in Ferlach (Carinthia) on Sunday. This was reported by the Austrian Severe Weather Center on Platform X. However, the first day with more than 35 degrees could follow on Monday. Villach (Carinthia) is mentioned as a possible frontrunner. Since weather records began in June, temperatures there have only exceeded 35 degrees nine times.
