ESC winner Johannes “JJ” Pietsch received two honors on July 15: the Golden Rathausmann and a gold record.
What an exciting day for ESC winner Johannes “JJ” Pietsch (24)! On July 15, the countertenor received the Golden Rathausmann – an honor from the city of Vienna, which was presented to him by Mayor Michael Ludwig in the presence of his family. And that wasn’t the only golden highlight of the day.
In the morning, JJ’s parents, his sister, and his grandfather gathered in the Red Salon of Vienna City Hall. “I didn’t want to get emotional. It’s truly a great honor to be standing here,” he said, unable to hold back his tears.
But that wasn’t all: shortly afterwards, the ESC winner announced on Instagram that his song “Wasted Love” had been awarded gold in Austria. In a photo, he proudly holds the gold record up to the camera and writes, “This also happened today: ‘Wasted Love’ went gold in Austria.”
Singer-songwriter Teya, who wrote the song for the 24-year-old, also received the award. Both were overjoyed.
