Vienna, Austria – August 7, 2025 (18:00, Wien Museum Atelier A + B) – In an intimate and inclusive gathering as part of the Kumain Ka Na? series, sige! proudly presents “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy: A Community Conversation on Queer Filipino Identity and Belonging.”

This informal talk will create a welcoming space for queer Filipinos and allies to engage in shared storytelling, reflective dialogue, and intergenerational connection. The discussion is moderated by community voices Gerard Rabara and Charmaine Taus, whose lived experiences and cultural fluency promise a rich, thoughtful exploration.

What to Expect

The evening will center around several core themes:

  • Identity & Language: Navigating Filipino terms like bakla and tomboy, and exploring how these labels evolve in diasporic contexts.
  • Intersectionality: How race, class, immigration status, and gender expression intersect within queer Filipino communities.
  • Representation & Activism: What visibility means across generations and borders—for media, grassroots organizing, and community care.
  • Lived Experience & Joy: Celebrating joy, resilience, and everyday care as foundations of queer Filipino belonging.

The event will encourage open reflection and dialogue in English, Tagalog, and German, allowing participants to express aspects of identity most authentic to them.

Importance & Context

As part of Kumain Ka Na?, the discussion isn’t solely an intellectual exercise—it’s also rooted in cultural nourishment. The event builds on previous storytelling and communal food-sharing experiences under the Wien Museum umbrella, strengthening kinship and care networks for queer Filipinos in Vienna.
