Summer is picking up speed again: after a rainy July, the sun is returning and temperatures are set to rise sharply by the weekend. It will be really hot by Friday at the latest – perfect conditions for anyone who has been waiting for swimming weather and balmy summer evenings.
After an unusually wet July, summer is slowly but surely making a comeback. The week will start off on a subdued note: on Monday, more clouds will block the sun in the north and east, and the weather will remain changeable from Vorarlberg to Upper Austria.
There may be light rain, especially in the mountains, with longer sunny spells returning to the west in the afternoon. Temperatures will start the day at a cool 8 to 15 degrees, rising to 18 to 25 degrees in the afternoon – with the southeast remaining the warmest.
Tuesday will be friendlier: the morning will be sunny, with only a few low clouds passing through in places. Cloud cover will thicken somewhat in the afternoon, with the first showers expected in the Waldviertel region toward evening. Early temperatures will range between 10 and 16 degrees, rising to 24 to 29 degrees during the day – with the hottest weather in Burgenland, the eastern Weinviertel region, and around Vienna.
Clouds will disappear starting Wednesday
Wednesday will start with a few remaining clouds in some regions, especially along the northern side of the Alps and in the south and southeast. However, the sun will prevail throughout the day. The risk of showers remains low – with the exception of the southern side of the Alps, where isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out in the afternoon. Temperatures will range between 10 and 17 degrees in the morning and reach 22 to 27 degrees in the afternoon.
Summer picks up speed on Thursday: lots of sunshine, with only occasional cloud fields moving in from the west. A few cumulus clouds will form over the mountains, where a brief shower is most likely in the afternoon. Temperatures will rise to a midsummer 26 to 30 degrees, with morning temperatures between nine and 17 degrees.
Hot weather this coming weekend
On Friday, midsummer will finally be back: lots of sun, hardly any clouds – and if there are any, they will mostly be harmless. Only in the mountains are isolated thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Temperatures will climb to 28 to 33 degrees, and tropical nights are approaching. In the morning, it will already be 11 to 18 degrees.
