Vienna is raising prices for public transport tickets and parking. The annual pass for Wiener Linien is increasing by over €100 (however, there is a discount for the digital version), and the parking sticker is jumping to €13 per month.

Vienna is increasing the prices for public transport tickets and parking. Fares will rise by up to 30 percent. The annual ticket for Wiener Linien will cost 467 euros in the future instead of the previous 365 euros, although there is a discount for the digital version. Other tickets will also be adjusted accordingly. Parking will also cost more. Not only will the prices for parking tickets increase, but the parking sticker will also become more expensive.

Higher prices for Wiener Linien annual passes and parking stickers

The parking sticker will cost 13 euros per month instead of the current 10 euros. There will also be a measure in the area of tourism. The local tax will be raised from 3.2 to 8.5 percent. The fare increases were presented on Monday by City Councillor for Finance Barbara Novak and City Councillor for Transport and Planning Ulli Sima (both SPÖ). The budgetary situation and the increased need for consolidation justified them.

This is the first increase in the price of the annual ticket in 13 years. In 2012, it was reduced from 449 to 365 euros by the then red-green city government. From January 1, 2026, the card will cost 467 euros, at least if you opt for the classic version in credit card format. If you only purchase the ticket digitally, it will cost 461 euros. As Sima emphasized, there will also be a new youth ticket. People under the age of 26 can purchase it for €300 (€294 digitally). Being a student is no longer a prerequisite for buying the discounted ticket.

As Sima emphasized, the increase in the price of the annual ticket was made in line with that of the nationwide climate ticket. This has only been available for a much shorter period of time, but has already become 27.85 percent more expensive. Other ticket types, such as the various single ticket categories, are also affected by the ticket measure. However, the range of tickets on offer will be streamlined. In the future, for example, passengers will be able to choose between a regular ticket and a reduced ticket for children or young people for a single journey. The former will cost 3.20 euros (3 euros digitally) instead of the current 2.40 euros.

Fare evasion will cost 135 euros, 30 euros more than at present.

The single ticket for seniors will be discontinued. The 48-hour and 72-hour tickets will also be history from next year. What is new, however, is a revaluation of the annual ticket. Sima announced today that there will be regular adjustments. She believes this makes more sense than leaving the price unchanged for an extended period of time and then increasing it significantly. Incidentally, those who choose to travel without a ticket will also have to dig deeper into their pockets if they are caught. Fare evasion will cost 135 euros instead of 105 euros in future.

Parking tickets, parking stickers, local tax

Parking tickets will also increase by 30 percent, also from January 1. Specifically, the cost per half hour will increase by 40 cents, regardless of the parking ticket. The parking sticker will be converted from an annual to a monthly fee. Parking fines will also be increased.

The new local tax rate will be levied from December 1. Novak emphasized that the 8.5 percent rate would place Vienna in the international mid-range. The additional revenue will be used to finance projects aimed at reducing the ecological footprint of the growing number of visitors.

The finance councillor asserted that the increases were essential to achieve the budget targets and cover the costs of urban infrastructure. The measures now announced will contribute to consolidation to varying degrees: additional revenue of €81 million is expected from parking, and an additional €81 million from the local tax. Revenue from public transport is expected to increase by up to €150 million annually.
