Inflation in Austria not only remains high compared to other European countries, but it is actually rising even further. According to a flash estimate by Statistics Austria, inflation stood at 4.1 percent in August.

“According to initial estimates, inflation in August 2025 was 4.1 percent, up from 3.6 percent in July. This is the highest figure since March 2024,” explains Manuela Lenk, Director General of Statistics Austria.

Almost all expenditure groups contributed to this increase: the energy sector, after 4.2 percent in July, showed robust growth of 5.9 percent, as fuel prices had a significantly less dampening effect on prices than recently and electricity prices continued to rise.

Services continued to have the most significant impact on inflation, rising by 4.7 percent, followed by food, tobacco, and alcohol, whose prices rose by five percent. Core inflation, which covers services and industrial goods, was 3.8 percent (3.4 percent in July). (red.)
