The Philippine Embassy and Permanent Mission in Vienna marked the United Nations’ 80th anniversary with a 3-day exhibit titled “Pioneers of Multilateralism: Stories from the United Nations at 80” at the Vienna International Centre. The event highlighted the contributions of around 40 Filipino international civil servants serving in UN bodies and organizations based in Vienna.
The opening on 25 August 2025 gathered diplomats, UN officials, and the Filipino community. Leaders from the CTBTO, IAEA, UNODC, UNOOSA, and UNIDO commended the Philippines’ enduring role in advancing peace, security, and multilateral cooperation. Ambassador Maria Cleofe Natividad of the IAEA underscored the country’s commitment to peaceful uses of atomic energy and its bid for a 2027–2028 UN Security Council seat.

Ambassador Evangelina A. Bernas emphasized that multilateralism thrives through individuals, citing the Philippines’ legacy from founding membership in 1945 to peacekeeping and leadership roles in key UN bodies.
Featured Filipino civil servants shared how Filipino values—pakikisama (cooperation), bayanihan (collective effort), and respeto (respect)—have shaped their work in fostering collaboration in a multicultural environment.
The exhibit also showcased a special Philippine-issued commemorative stamp marking 80 years of the country’s contributions to the UN.
