iPhone 17: Apple will unveil new iPhones, Apple Watch, AirPods Pro 3, and more on September 9—all the info on technology, features, and highlights.
It’s THE Apple event of the year. On Tuesday, the iPhone giant showed more than ever before where the journey is headed, especially in terms of technology. In addition to the iPhone 17 family, fans can also look forward to new watches and earphones. Other possible candidates include a revamped streaming box, redesigned smart speakers, and the AirTag 2.
iPhone 17: The base model is unlikely to change much in terms of appearance. However, the display is expected to be slightly larger at 6.3 inches and—for the first time in a non-Pro model—feature a refresh rate of 120 hertz for smooth scrolling. Apple is also likely to increase the resolution of the selfie cam to 24 megapixels.
iPhone 17 Air: According to experts, the iPhone Plus, a base model with a larger display, will be discontinued due to modest demand and replaced by the Air. The slimmest iPhone to date is expected to measure just 5.5 millimeters at its thinnest point and feature a 6.6-inch display with 120 hertz. According to insiders, only one primary camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels will be installed to enable the flat design. In addition, compromises in battery performance are to be expected.
iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max: The most visible changes are emerging in the top league. The current square camera module is to be replaced by a camera bar that extends across the entire width of the device. There are also increasing indications of a telephoto lens with multiple optical zoom (reportedly up to 8x!) and 48-megapixel resolution. This would make the iPhone 17 Pro the first Apple smartphone with three 48 MP sensors. A 24-MP front camera is also considered a certainty (as in the base model).
All iPhone 17:Recently, there have been increasing rumors that Apple will no longer use SIM card slots in the future, not only in the US but also in Europe, and will rely solely on programmable eSIMs (as with iPads). This is considered certain for the iPhone 17 Air, at least.
Apple Watch Series 11: No significant visual changes are expected. However, the next generation is said to feature a brighter display and a more powerful chip. In terms of mobile communications, Apple is likely to upgrade to the current 5G standard. A blood pressure feature is also possible. According to reports, this will initially sound an alarm in the event of critical deviations, but without providing exact measurements.
Apple Watch Ultra 3: After a purely color upgrade last year, the top outdoor watch is due for another significant update. A display with higher resolution and narrower bezels, as well as a 5G modem (instead of LTE), is considered a sure thing. It is also likely to feature a satellite chip for calling for help or communicating with friends and family away from mobile networks, and—as in the Watch Series 11—a blood pressure function.
Apple Watch SE 3: Apple last gave its entry-level watch a facelift in 2022. This year could be the time again. Probably—faster chip, larger, brighter display.
AirPods Pro 3: Insiders are expecting a new version of the top-of-the-line earbuds with a brand-new chip, improved noise cancellation, and sensors for measuring heart rate and temperature in the ear. There has also been repeated talk of a live translation feature. A slightly revised design is also to be expected, with the charging case in particular set to be slimmer.
Other: Other possible candidates for the “Awe Dropping” event include an Apple TV 4K with a more powerful processor and a new HomePod mini. In addition, Apple CEO Tim Cook could present the second generation of AirTag trackers.
