They lie innocently in your wallet, yet some of them are worth up to €100,000. It’s worth taking a closer look, because some 2-euro coins turn out to be real treasures. Misprints and rare editions are particularly sought after.

The “fried egg” misprint, for example, is worth up to 100 euros. This misprint is a 1 or 2 euro coin whose interior is oval rather than round. The actual value of the coin depends on the size of the misprint.

Coin featuring Grace Kelly worth up to €3,300

A “stamp rotation,” i.e., when the reverse side of the coin is upside down, can be worth up to €200. Coins with an incorrect edge inscription are particularly sought after, as reported by “Sparkasse.” This applies to coins whose symbol does not match the edge inscription and shows, for example, that of a neighboring country. Collectors often pay up to 150 euros for these misprints.

Currently, the 2-euro coin featuring the portrait of the late Princess Gracia Patricia is fetching incredible prices among collectors. The princess should be familiar to everyone under her birth name—she is the actress Grace Kelly. The coin was minted with her portrait in a limited edition from Monaco. Depending on its condition, the coin is traded for amounts of up to 3,300 euros.
