The mild autumn is coming to an end sooner than expected. The next cold front is due to arrive next week. It will bring not only rain but also snow. The weekend will be cloudless and mostly sunny once again, until the cold front moves in from the west and brings sleet to the mountains.
Bright sunshine is expected in most parts of the country on Friday. Only in Vorarlberg and Tyrol will thick clouds roll in around noon, but there will be no rain. Temperatures will rise from minus four to plus four degrees in the morning to up to 16 degrees in the afternoon.
With the cold front, thick clouds will move across Austria on Saturday, and there may also be isolated snow showers in the mountains. However, the sun will shine intermittently, especially in the eastern part of the country. With temperatures of up to 20 degrees, it will be unusually mild for the beginning of October.
On Sunday morning, the cold front will bring thick clouds and rain from East Tyrol to the low-lying Weinviertel region. At the same time, the snow line will drop to 1400 meters, meaning winter will return to the mountains. Conditions will improve during the day, and in the afternoon the sun will return across Austria with mild temperatures of up to 13 degrees.
Along and north of the main Alpine ridge, Monday will remain cloudy and unsettled, with showers passing through. In the south and southeast, however, the sun will shine intermittently. Temperatures will range between 11 and 16 degrees.
