Vienna, Austria – October 3, 2025 – The Igorot Austria organization celebrated its 25th founding anniversary with a vibrant and heartfelt gathering on October 3, 2025, at the Salvatorianer Parish Hall in Vienna’s 10th District. The milestone event drew members, friends, and supporters from across Austria, including leaders of various Filipino communities and representatives from the Philippine Embassy in Vienna.
The evening was both a reunion and a cultural showcase, as the group reflected on its journey over the past quarter-century. In her address, former president and now adviser Marjorie Guidangen-Akistoy recalled the humble beginnings of Igorot Austria, founded by pioneers who wanted to preserve the culture and traditions of the Cordillera region while fostering unity among Filipinos in Austria. Guidangen-Akistoy highlighted the enduring spirit of solidarity that has guided the organization through challenges and growth. “May Igorot Austria continue to shine brighter and remain more unified in the years to come,” she told the audience.

Representing the Philippine Embassy, Consul General Zoilo Velasco delivered congratulatory remarks on behalf of Ambassador Evangelina Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas. He commended the group for its dedication to keeping Cordilleran heritage alive in a foreign land. “Your work in celebrating your identity not only enriches the Filipino community here in Austria but also strengthens the cultural bridge between the Philippines and Austria,” Velasco said.
One of the highlights of the program was the presentation of the organization’s founders and past presidents, a gesture that recognized their role in shaping the association’s legacy. A special tribute was given to the Bounggick family, particularly Cristabel and Patrick Bounggick, who were acknowledged as the pioneering leaders of Igorot Austria.
The evening also marked a new chapter for the organization with the induction of its new set of officers, led by incoming president Mrs. Jemima Schwarzmann. The ceremonial turnover of responsibilities underscored the continuity of leadership and the organization’s commitment to empowering the next generation.
No Igorot celebration would be complete without music and dance, and the cultural performances proved to be a centerpiece of the night. Members showcased a variety of Cordilleran dances, including the Tadek, a courtship dance from Abra; the Takik of Mountain Province; the Lablabbaan; the majestic Eagle Dance; the Unity Dance; and the rhythmic Pattong. Each performance brought the audience closer to the traditions of the highlands, reinforcing the group’s mission of cultural preservation.
Throughout the evening, the spirit of camaraderie was evident as attendees shared stories, laughter, and pride in their heritage. The celebration not only honored the achievements of the past 25 years but also set the tone for Igorot Austria’s future endeavors—continuing to foster cultural pride, community solidarity, and active participation in the broader Filipino diaspora in Austria.
As the night drew to a close, the silver jubilee of Igorot Austria stood as a testament to the resilience and dedication of its members. With strong leadership, community support, and a renewed sense of purpose, the group looks ahead to the next 25 years with hope and determination.
