The sun is a rare sight in many places these days. Rain showers and thick clouds dominate. But the weather is set to improve towards the weekend, although there is also a chance of fresh snow in the mountains on Saturday.
According to the forecast by Geosphere Austria, it will remain mainly dry and sunny at times in the west and south on Wednesday, while the sky will be cloudy in the north and east. The odd rain shower is also possible in these areas. Temperatures will reach between 10 and 16 degrees Celsius.
Fog and high fog will persist on Thursday in basins and valleys in southern and western Austria. Thicker clouds will also appear from Upper Austria towards the east and in Styria. In the Vienna Basin, eastern Styria, and parts of Burgenland, short showers are once again to be expected. Around noon, however, the sun may break through the cloud cover. It will remain cool in places in the morning with temperatures between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius. During the day, temperatures between 11 and 18 degrees Celsius are possible.
According to the forecast, Friday should remain predominantly dry. In addition, we can expect a mix of clouds and sun north of the main Alpine ridge, with fog spreading once again in some basins and valleys. The sun will shine much more frequently from East Tyrol eastwards and in Vorarlberg. Early temperatures will reach minus 1 to plus 9 degrees, with maximum daytime temperatures of 11 to 17 degrees.
According to the forecast, a disturbance zone will sweep across the country from the north on Saturday, bringing dense clouds to the northern side of the Alps, at least in the morning. There will still be a few scattered raindrops. Most of the precipitation will fall in the mountainous regions from the Tennengebirge eastwards to the Bucklige Welt, and there will be snow above 1300 to 1500 meters above sea level. In any case, Vorarlberg will enjoy favorable weather conditions—the day will start very sunny here. In the south and southeast, the sun will break through during the day. It will remain cool in the morning, with early temperatures of 1 to 8 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs of 10 to 16 degrees Celsius.
Sunday will be very sunny in almost all of Austria—only a few Alpine valleys will see some clouds. Fog will linger there at first, but it will dissipate during the day. In the west, scattered clouds will dim the sunshine from midday onwards. The morning will start with frosty early temperatures in some areas—minus 3 to plus 5 degrees are forecast. The daytime highs will reach between 12 and 17 degrees.
