The coming week will start off cool, windy, and unsettled, with rain and snowfall possible everywhere. From Wednesday onwards, however, increasingly pleasant weather is expected, with temperatures reaching up to 19 degrees on Thursday thanks to the foehn wind, according to the forecast issued by Geosphere Austria on Saturday.

The eastern Alpine region will remain in a westerly flow on Sunday with a slight disturbance. Depending on the time of day, longer sunny spells will alternate with thick clouds and short showers throughout Austria. Precipitation will be concentrated in the west in the morning and in the southeast in the afternoon. Snowfall limits between 1,100 and 1,600 meters. The wind will blow briskly from the west from Vorarlberg across western Styria to the Weinviertel. Early temperatures will range from minus two to plus seven degrees, with daytime highs between seven and 13 degrees.

On Monday, a northwesterly flow will continue to prevail, with a disturbance moving in from the west, bringing heavy cloud cover or overcast skies throughout the country during the day. Rain and snowfall will spread eastward by the afternoon. Only the southeast will remain mostly dry. Snowfall will occur between 900 and 1,200 meters, with milder temperatures in the west. The wind will be brisk, strong north of the main Alpine ridge, blowing from the south to the west. Early temperatures will range from minus two to plus seven degrees, with daytime highs of five to 13 degrees.

With a northwesterly flow, residual clouds will initially persist on the northern side of the Alps and in the north on Tuesday, and there may still be a little rain or snow here. Snowfall limit 900 to 1,400 meters above sea level. However, the sun will increasingly prevail there during the course of the day.

Further east and south, sunny weather will generally prevail. Only in the late afternoon and evening will some extensive cloud fields move across the sky in the far north and northeast. The wind will be moderate to brisk, with strong westerly winds in exposed locations in the east; only in the south will it be rather calm. Early temperatures will range from minus three to plus seven degrees, with daytime highs of six to 13 degrees.

On Wednesday, sunny weather will prevail in many regions with a weak high-pressure influence and an increasingly southwesterly upper air flow. However, fog may persist in the valleys and basins at first, and some extensive high cloud fields will also move across the sky during the day. However, these will only dim the sunlight a little at times. The wind will be mostly light, with only the east initially experiencing moderate westerly winds. Early temperatures will range from minus five to plus eight degrees, with daytime highs of nine to 16 degrees.

With a foehn-like southwesterly flow, dense clouds will accumulate on the southern side of the Alps on Thursday. High fog patches may also persist in some areas over the lowlands. Apart from that, however, the weather will be mostly pleasant and sunny at times, even though some high and medium-high cloud fields will generally pass across the sky. The wind will blow in foehn gusts and in the southeast moderately to briskly from the south to southwest, otherwise it will be mostly calm. Early temperatures will range from minus three to plus eight degrees, with daytime highs of nine to 19 degrees depending on fog, sun, and foehn-like south winds.
