Partial closure of the U6: Wiener Linien begins renovation work on the U6, U4, and 49. Closures, replacement transport, and modernization work on the public transport network from October 27.
From Monday (October 27), work will be carried out on several routes in the Vienna public transport network. Wiener Linien is renewing points, tracks, and platforms. This will result in temporary closures and replacement services on the U6, U4, and line 49.
The U6 will be closed between Spittelau and Jägerstraße from October 27 (4 a.m.) to November 3 (4 a.m.). The reason for this is the replacement of a switch that has reached the end of its service life.
During this time, the line will be divided. Service will run between Siebenhirten and Spittelau and between Floridsdorf and Jägerstraße. Replacement buses will shuttle between the two endpoints. Standard service is expected to resume after one week.
From November 3 (4 a.m.) to December 5 (4 a.m.), U4 trains heading toward Hütteldorf will not stop at Landstraße station. The platform will be modernized during this time, including new flooring and barrier-free facilities.
The station will remain open in the direction of Heiligenstadt. Passengers who need to go to Landstraße can get off at the next station, Schwedenplatz, and take the train back in the opposite direction.
Tram line 49 is also affected by the work. Between October 27 and November 8, the tracks will be renewed in the Bujattigasse–Hütteldorf area. During this time, the tram will only run as far as Ring, Volkstheater. Replacement bus services will be provided on the closed section. After that, the line should be running again as scheduled.
Despite the work, most of the public transport network will remain operational. Passengers are asked to allow extra time during the construction phases and to find out about replacement services.
