Austria is facing a change in the weather: While the weekend will be very mild and sunny in places—especially away from the thick fog zones—a significant cold front with rain will move through on Monday. After that, the weather will calm down again, and according to the forecast by Geosphere Austria, increasingly stable, dry autumn weather will prevail from Tuesday onwards

Weather at the weekend

Saturday will also start foggy in many places, especially in the lowlands in the east, in southeastern Styria, and on the eastern edge of the Alps. However, the fog is expected to lift increasingly after midday. Away from the foggy areas, the sun will often shine despite thin veil clouds. There will only be more clouds in the border area with Italy and Slovenia. In foehn areas and in the northeast, there will be a brisk southeasterly wind at times. Temperatures will range between two and ten degrees in the morning and between ten and 20 degrees during the day, depending on fog or sunshine.

The weather will become increasingly unsettled on Sunday. While the sun will still shine briefly in the east, thick clouds will quickly move in from the west. Rain will spread in the afternoon, with the snow line dropping from over 2,000 to around 1,800 meters. It will remain dry longer in the south. The wind will continue to blow briskly from the south. Early temperatures will range from four to eleven degrees, with highs reaching twelve to 19 degrees again.

Weather at the start of the week

The new week will start cooler and cloudier: with a cold front passing through, Monday will initially see clouds and rain, with the snow line dropping to 1,200 to 1,500 meters. The precipitation will soon subside, especially in the west, where it will clear up in the afternoon. Clouds and rain will linger a little longer in the east. The wind will blow from the west, partly briskly. Morning temperatures will range from two to ten degrees, with highs of seven to 15 degrees during the day.

High pressure will bring calm autumn weather on Tuesday. Local early morning fog will quickly dissipate, and in many places the sun will shine from an almost cloudless sky. In the east, the north wind will pick up at times, but elsewhere it will remain light. Early morning temperatures will range from minus two to plus eight degrees, with highs between nine and 16 degrees.
