Monday, December 8, 2025, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception—and thus traditionally one of the most important shopping days of the Advent season. Although it is a public holiday, shops in Austria are allowed to open on this day.
December 8 as an important additional date in the Christmas shopping season
Every year, many retailers use December 8 to boost Christmas sales. Many Viennese also find this shopping day convenient for buying gifts or making preparations for the holidays.
As in previous years, numerous supermarkets, shopping centers, fashion chains, electronics stores, furniture stores, and hardware stores will open their doors on December 8, 2025. As usual, the legally permitted opening hours are between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, anyone wishing to post letters or parcels will have to wait a day, as all post offices will be closed due to the public holiday.

dm: all stores and hair salons open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (beauty salons closed)
Bipa: all stores closed
Opening hours of Vienna’s shopping centers on December 8, 2025
All Vienna shopping centers (as well as numerous stores in Vienna’s major shopping streets) will be open on December 8, 2025, but the legally restricted opening hours will apply here as well:
- Auhof Center: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Westfield Donau Zentrum: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Gerngross: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Lugner City: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Millennium City: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Riverside: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Huma Eleven: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Galleria: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- SCS – Westfield Shopping City Süd: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- SCN: open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
