Vienna – The fourth Advent weekend in Austria is set to remain calm but largely grey, especially in the country’s eastern lowlands. Persistent high‑pressure conditions continue to dominate the weather pattern, trapping stubborn fog and low stratus clouds in valleys and basins. Away from these fog zones, however, the days will be surprisingly bright and mild, with temperatures reaching up to 13°C in some regions.

Vienna: Quiet Weather, Persistent Fog

According to Geosphere Austria, the tranquil weather phase will continue through the weekend. In the lowlands, however, fog remains the defining feature. On Friday, dense fog and low clouds are expected to linger throughout the day in the east and in the Rhine Valley. Outside these areas, the weather will be mostly sunny, though cloud cover will increase in western Austria during the afternoon. Morning temperatures range from –6°C to +3°C, with daytime highs between 1°C and 5°C. In the far west, sunshine may push temperatures up to 12°C.

Saturday: Hardly Any Change in Sight

Saturday brings little variation. Dense, persistent fog will once again dominate the east, the Danube Valley, and parts of the Rhine Valley. Elsewhere, the weather remains bright, often cloudless, and mild. In Upper Austria, some fog patches may begin to dissolve during the afternoon. Early temperatures will lie between –7°C and +3°C, while afternoon values will vary widely depending on sunshine, ranging from 1°C to 12°C.

Sunday: Fog Holds On Under High Pressure

The final Advent Sunday continues the same pattern. Under ongoing high‑pressure influence, thick fog and low stratus clouds will cling to the northern, eastern, and southeastern lowlands. Light drizzle may occur locally within the fog zones. Beyond these areas, sunshine will dominate, with only a few harmless high or mid‑level clouds. Morning temperatures drop to between –9°C and +3°C, rising later to between 1°C and 13°C depending on fog persistence.

High Pressure Weakens at the Start of the Week

The new week begins with continued high‑pressure conditions. On Monday, fog and low clouds will once again be widespread, especially in the east and southeast, where drizzle may occur. Sunshine prevails outside the fog zones, accompanied by only thin, scattered clouds. Temperatures range from –7°C to +5°C in the morning and reach 1°C to 13°C during the day.
