Starting this Sunday, Kunsthalle Wien will introduce a new monthly “Free Admission Sunday,” opening its doors at no cost on the last Sunday of each month. The initiative is made possible through a new partnership with the Dorotheum, Central Europe’s leading auction house, and applies to both Kunsthalle locations: Museumsquartier and Karlsplatz.

The program aims to broaden access to contemporary art and invite new audiences into the museum’s spaces. Kunsthalle Wien is known for presenting internationally acclaimed artists alongside emerging talents, with exhibitions that engage directly with pressing social issues.

Contemporary Art for Everyone

Across its two centrally located venues, visitors can explore a wide spectrum of artistic media—from painting, sculpture, and photography to large-scale installations, film, video, and digital art. Current highlights include a retrospective of American painter Richard Hawkins and a 62‑meter mural by German-British artist Sophie von Hellermann, both on view at Museumsquartier. At Karlsplatz, a joint exhibition by Academy of Fine Arts graduates Jonida Laçi and Luīze Nežberte—recipients of the Kunsthalle Wien Prize 2025—invites audiences into fresh perspectives from the next generation of artists.

With the introduction of Free Sundays, Kunsthalle Wien reinforces its mission to make contemporary art accessible to all, reduce barriers to cultural participation, and welcome visitors who may not regularly engage with art institutions.

The free admission days are supported by the Dorotheum.
