Austria’s unusually mild spring weather is set to continue in the coming days. According to forecasts issued on Sunday by meteorologists at Geosphere Austria, mornings will remain rather cool, but daytime temperatures are expected to rise steadily to around 18°C nationwide.

Calm Start to the Week

The workweek begins with scattered clouds, particularly over mountainous regions, though most areas will remain dry. Sunshine is expected to break through more widely in the afternoon. Winds from the east to south will pick up noticeably in the north and east, while other regions remain largely calm. Morning temperatures will range from –2°C to +5°C, with daytime highs between 13°C and 18°C.

High pressure near the surface will continue to dominate the weather in the Eastern Alps on Tuesday. Sunshine will once again prevail for much of the day, though the afternoon will bring an increase in cumulus clouds, especially in hilly and mountainous areas. Any showers that develop are expected to be brief and weak. A brisk southerly wind may develop along the eastern edge of the Alps and in the eastern lowlands. Temperatures will rise from –1°C to +5°C in the morning to between 12°C and 18°C during the day.

More Clouds from Midweek

On Wednesday, the influence of high pressure will begin to weaken from the west. As a result, thicker cloud cover and more widespread cumulus clouds are expected. Short rain showers may occur, particularly in the mountains, while the lowlands will remain mostly dry. Winds will stay light. Morning temperatures will range from –2°C to +5°C, with highs between 13°C and 18°C.

A weak disturbance will move into Austria on Thursday. While sunshine is still likely east of Salzburg early in the day, clouds and showers will develop increasingly from the hills and mountains by late morning, gradually spreading into the lowlands. The least sunshine and the most frequent showers are expected from the Tyrolean Unterland through East Tyrol and into Carinthia. Along the Danube and in the southeast, conditions should remain mostly dry. Westerly winds will strengthen over Upper and Lower Austria as the day progresses. Temperatures will start between –1°C and +5°C and reach highs of 10°C to 18°C, with the warmest conditions in the southeast.

Widespread Sunshine Returns Friday

A ridge of high pressure will bring a return to widespread sunshine on Friday, with a noticeable decrease in shower activity even in the mountains. However, intermittent cloud cover is still expected, particularly in the southeast. Winds will be light to moderate from the east to south, and a slight föhn effect north of the main Alpine ridge may boost temperatures. Daytime highs will generally range from 15°C to 17°C, with even higher values possible in föhn‑affected areas.
