Austria is heading into a noticeably cooler and more unsettled week, according to a Sunday forecast from Geosphere Austria. The start of the workweek will be dominated by weak disturbance systems, bringing widespread cloud cover and frequent rainfall. Conditions are expected to calm temporarily midweek before another weather front arrives on Friday.
Cooler Air Moves In on Tuesday
A flow of cooler northwesterly air will raise surface pressure on Tuesday, though upper-level low pressure will continue to dominate. Many regions will start the day with thick clouds and widespread precipitation. Snow levels in the east will sit between 700 and 1,000 meters. Northerly winds will blow briskly along the eastern Alps and in some foehn-prone valleys. Morning temperatures will range from minus three to plus five degrees, with highs between six and 13 degrees.
Midweek: Clouds and Showers in the Southeast
On Wednesday, a high-altitude low centered over the Adriatic will maintain slight disturbance influence in southeastern Austria, bringing dense clouds and scattered showers. Snow may temporarily fall as low as 600 to 1,000 meters. Elsewhere, conditions will remain mostly dry, with extended sunshine especially in the west. Morning temperatures will drop to between minus five and plus four degrees, while daytime highs will reach eight to 15 degrees.
Sunny and Calm on Thursday
Austria will lie on the edge of a high-pressure system centered over the British Isles on Thursday. A northeasterly flow will bring widespread sunshine, with many areas experiencing cloudless skies. Morning temperatures will range from minus five to plus three degrees, and highs will climb to between ten and 15 degrees.
New Disturbance Arrives Friday
The next weather front is expected to move in from the north on Friday, bringing dense clouds along with rain, snow, and graupel showers. Snow levels along the northern Alps will drop to between 500 and 800 meters. The south, however, will remain more sheltered and enjoy longer sunny spells. Morning temperatures will sit between minus three and plus three degrees, with daytime highs ranging from seven to 14 degrees.
