Forty-five new deaths associated with Covid-19.
New infections continue to persist at a high level. From Monday to Tuesday, 30,939 new infections were registered in Austria. This is below the average of 31,475 over the past seven days. Currently, 293,688 people in Austria are actively infected with the coronavirus.
The seven-day incidence is 2,475.23. In the past 24 hours, 535,783 new PCR tests were performed. This results in a positive rate of 5.77 percent.
There are also 45 new deaths associated with Covid 19 infection to report. To date, the Coronavirus has claimed 15,071 lives in Austria. Per 100,000 population, 168.7 people have died from or with Covid-19 since the pandemic began.
Two thousand seven hundred sixty people are currently being treated in hospital, up by 168 from yesterday. In intensive care units, 195 people are now receiving treatment.
Vaccinations
Vaccination progress continued to be slow. As of Monday, only 3,677 vaccinations have been administered; 384 were first shots, the lowest number since the vaccination campaign began in January 2021. Eight hundred ninety-two vaccinations were second shots, and most – 2,401 – were so-called booster vaccinations. Thus, 6,239,548 people currently have proper vaccination protection or 69.9 percent of Austrians. This is even 1,568 people less than the day before. This means that these people have foregone the third sting for immunization and have lost their valid vaccination certificates as a result. The expert commission appointed by the government to evaluate compulsory vaccination is to present its first report today, Tuesday.
The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland with 76 percent. In Lower Austria, 71.9 percent of the population has proper vaccination protection; in Styria, 70.7 percent. After Vienna (68.9), Tyrol (68), Carinthia (66.8), Salzburg (66), and Vorarlberg (65.9), Upper Austria continues to bring up the rear with 65.5 percent.
