After Christmas, the Christmas tree is disposed of. From December 27, the discarded trees can be disposed of at 576 Christmas tree collection points throughout Vienna.
The Christmas tree collection points in Vienna are free of charge from December 27, 2022, up to and including January 15, 2023. Apart from that, the 48er also accepts Christmas trees at all Vienna waste sites throughout the year.
Disposed of Christmas trees are energetically utilized in Vienna
The Christmas trees collected by the 48er are recycled for energy at the Pfaffenau waste incineration plant in Vienna-Simmering. With the power generated, Wien Energie can supply thousands of Viennese households with electricity and district heating. Some trees even serve delicious fodder for the Pinzgauer goats at the Rautenweg landfill site.
Last year, around 175,000 Christmas trees, or 772 tons, were taken to Christmas tree collection points in the Vienna metropolitan area.
576 Christmas tree collection points in Vienna open until January 15 2023
From December 27, 2022, until January 15, 2023, the standard service of the 48er will be available to Viennese residents. In addition, Christmas trees can be dropped off at Vienna’s waste disposal sites throughout the year.
All ornaments, such as hooks or glass balls, should be removed from the disposed of Christmas trees.
