Corona numbers are high, but the free test program is about to end.
“The positivity rate is still very high at 20 percent.” This was stated now by Univ. Prof. Dr. Michael Havel, CEO and founder of the Lifebrain lab, after the Vienna Corona lab, terminated 122 more employees. This would further align the location and staffing levels with current Corona requirements. Since the beginning of March, a negative PCR test no longer has to be presented when visiting hospitals and nursing homes – meaning the last testing requirement in the country has been dropped.
By the end of June, the last Corona measure should also be a thing of the past and the PCR testing campaign “Everything gurgles” will finally be scrapped. Now the question arises: Is it possible to test at all?
The answer is clearly yes, at least until the summer: “Until June 30, 2023, the existing testing system will remain in place: five antigen and five PCR tests per month per capita free of charge,” says the Ministry of Social Affairs.
It said how it goes on after that. However, it is just being worked out. “Corona vaccinations are to remain free of charge as well as the tests for certain groups of people. To this end, discussions are currently underway with the social security system on how best to integrate this into the existing system.”
So it’s clear Corona testing won’t remain free for everyone. However, in case of suspected Corona, possibly the health number 1450 or the family doctor could still be a good place to go. However, this has not been confirmed by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
What is fixed is that infection with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus will no longer be a notifiable disease as of June 30, 2023.
