Spring is fast approaching. The weather will bring mild temperatures in the coming days.

“In the lowlands, this February was consistently too mild from the first to the last day,” explains Nikolas Zimmermann from the Vienna-based Severe Weather Center. The meteorologist explains: “The third month of winter has completely failed this year. February was even significantly warmer in the lowlands than an average March.”

Particularly on the northern side of the Alps and in the east, temperatures were around 6 degrees above the seasonal average. Saharan dust will also move into Central Europe in the middle of the week. What will the weather be like?

Monday will be mostly sunny and dry in the northeast, but clouds will dominate from Vorarlberg to Upper Styria and Carinthia. On the main Alpine ridge and in the southern mountain groups, a few flakes will fall from time to time or even drop below 1,200 meters, but it will mostly remain dry. A brisk to strong southeasterly wind will blow in the east. In the mountains, it will remain foehn-like. Highs will be between 6 and 15 degrees.

On Tuesday, the sun will sometimes shine from the Tyrolean lowlands to western Lower Austria. Away from there, the clouds will dominate, and from the Brenner Pass to the Koralpe there will be some snow and rain below 1,200 meters. Moderate to brisk southeasterly winds will blow in the eastern lowlands, with light foehn winds in the Mostviertel. This is also where the highest temperatures are expected, reaching 6 to 16 degrees nationwide.
Wednesday will offer a few hours of sunshine in the country’s eastern half, while clouds will predominate from Vorarlberg to the Innviertel and in Carinthia. From the main ridge of the Tyrolean Alps to the Karawanken, it will rain at times with a snow line between 800 and 1,200 meters, while it will remain dry on the northern side of the Alps and in the east. The wind will be mostly weak in the east and moderate to brisk from the southeast. From west to east, highs will be between 5 and 16 degrees.
