A low battery is one of the biggest annoyances in everyday smartphone use. Battery packs can alleviate the problem a little. Even though high-performance power banks are available for around 20 euros, carrying these devices around is quite annoying.
Unnecessary turning
Sometimes, however, it can also be helpful to take a closer look at the settings on your iPhone. If you tweak a few settings, you can at least limit the energy consumption of your Apple mobile phone to some extent.
Depending on which apps you have installed on your iPhone, it can help to restrict or deactivate the background activity of the applications. This can prevent apps from draining the battery even though they are not actively used. But there is one thing you should keep in mind.
To switch off background activity
Switch to the “Settings”
Select “General”
Go to “Background refresh”
Be careful when deactivating
All the apps you have installed on your device are listed here. By default, background activity is allowed for all apps. You can now revoke the authorisation for individual apps to be active in the background. Alternatively, you can deactivate background activity for all apps at once.
However, some apps need to be active in the background for the application to work correctly – for example, messengers such as WhatsApp or mail programmes. These regularly check whether new messages have arrived in the background and send a corresponding notification if necessary.
If you deactivate the background activity of such apps, you will no longer receive a notification when a new message arrives. Only when you actively open the application will the programme check whether there are new messages. The same applies to apps that rely on a GPS signal to function correctly, which may also be queried in the background.
However, numerous applications may be able to do so without background activity, such as the Chrome browser, Instagram, Google Maps, Facebook, weather apps, or any games. If you switch off the background activity authorization here, you will no longer receive any notifications.
Which app is active in the background?
Here, too, it’s worth looking at the settings to check which app is particularly active in the background and draining the battery without you even realising it. In this case, you must look at the iPhone’s battery settings.
There are 2 different analyses: Firstly, the percentage of energy consumption accounted for by the respective apps is displayed—in the past 24 hours and the past 10 days. If you now select “Show activity”, the display switches to a minute display. It also shows which applications were active in the background and for how long.
If you keep an eye on these parameters and switch off the background activity for some apps if necessary, you can save a lot of battery. At the end of the day, you will have a few percent more batteries left with the right settings.
