Apple unveiled its new tablets on Tuesday. It was the most significant iPad upgrade of all time, with a total of 4 tablets unveiled. The star of the evening, however, was undoubtedly the new iPad Pro. If you missed the presentation, here are the most important things you need to know about the new Apple tablet in a nutshell:
1: Sizes
The new iPad Pro comes in 2 different display sizes. One with 11 inches and one with 13 inches. In this respect, nothing has changed compared to the previous generation.
2: Case
Apple has also returned to one of its favorite topics, thin devices. The iPad Pro is said to be the thinnest Apple device ever. The larger iPad Pro is only 5.1 millimetres thick. This makes it thinner than an iPod Nano.
Another remarkable innovation is that the front camera moves to the long edge and is positioned in the center.
3: OLED
However, the display technology that Apple is using for the new iPad Pro is entirely new for iPads. The tablet comes with an OLED display for the first time. According to Apple, it is the best display ever used on a tablet. Both the 11-inch and 13-inch versions come with an OLED screen.
The new screens are also much brighter: 1,000 nits full-screen brightness and 1,600 nits peak brightness. Apple calls the display technology Ultra Retina XDR.
4: M4 chip
Rumors have been confirmed that Apple is debuting the latest generation of its in-house Apple Silicon in tablets. The new iPad Pros come with the new M4 chip, around six months after the M3 generation was first presented. The M4 is most likely not an entirely new development but a continuation of the M3 in the 3nm process. The trending topic of AI also has its place. Apple has touted the M4’s Neural Engine. However, there was still nothing to report on specific functions.
5: New accessories
Apple announces a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro. It is thinner and made of metal for the first time. The new keyboard now has function keys, and the touchpad has been redesigned and enlarged.
The Apple Pencil Pro is now also available. The new pencil now also reacts when you ‘squeeze’ it between your fingers. It is also integrated into Apple’s Find My network. This is good news for anyone who likes to misplace their pencil.
6: Price
The new iPad Pro has 256 GB of storage space, which is standard. The 11-inch model is available for 1,199 euros, and the 13-inch version is for 1,549 euros.
Incidentally, the storage variants range to a maximum of 2 TB: the larger iPad Pro costs 2,759 euros, while the smaller model with 2 TB storage costs 2,409 euros.
The new keyboard costs 349 euros in Austria for the iPad Pro 11‘’. For the larger 13‘’ model, the new keyboard costs 399 euros. The new Pro model of the Apple Pencil costs 149 euros in Austria.
