On long-haul flights, you usually find a blanket and a pillow in your seat. These items are usually wrapped in foil. Can I take the blanket and pillow with me after the flight?

The blanket and pillow are intended to make a stay of several hours in the airplane seat more comfortable. So you can cover yourself up nicely and get through the flight hours snuggled up. However, if you think of taking the blanket off the plane, you should abandon the idea. You can’t do that, and the blanket is not a gift from the airline.

Blanket, pillow, headphones on the plane: what can you take with you?
Although the blankets are usually shrink-wrapped, they are not new items. After flights, the items are thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, reprocessed, and handed out again for future passengers. It is not permitted to take blankets and pillows with you. They, therefore, remain the property of the airlines. This is what a Lufthansa spokesperson says about the comfortable products.

“These items are the property of the airline and must, of course, remain on board.” (source: Reisereporter):

Taking headphones with you on the plane?
Even if the blanket and pillow have made your flight comfortable, you should simply leave the products in your seat when you get off the plane. If you take a blanket with you, this can be considered theft and punished accordingly. This also applies to other objects provided during the flight, such as cutlery, plates or the card with the safety instructions.

The disposable headphones that are provided on many longer flights in economy and premium economy class are an exception. You can take these with you after landing and use them on your journey. Ideally, you will already have headphones for your return journey. If the audio accessories are left on the seat, they are not cleaned but recycled. The situation is different with headphones. To be on the safe side, you should ask whether you can take them with you.

Tip: If you particularly like the blanket on the plane, speak to the cabin crew or take a look at the shopping magazine, which is often displayed in your seat. Travel accessories can be purchased from many airlines.
