In autumn 2002 the first Starmania season went on air. The format became one of the most successful shows the ORF ever broadcast and produced stars like Christina Stürmer or Conchita Wurst (at that time still under the name Thomas Neuwirth).
After a total of four seasons, Starmania was discontinued in 2009 – but now it could make a surprising comeback. As the “Standard” reported on Thursday, the show could return in spring 2021 with a general overhaul.
The show was conceived by the former ORF program developer Mischa Zickler. Comparable formats of that time were Pop Idol and The X Factor. On ORF, “Starmania”, which was presented by Arabella Kiesbauer, was replaced by the show “Helden von morgen.
