Thursday, November 7, 2024 – After we embarked on a long trip yesterday from Cappadocia, passing by the big town of Konya, we reached the bustling and picturesque Turkish town of Manavgat, dwhere we spent a restful night at the Side Square Hotel, a charming and centrally located spot offering both comfort and convenience. Known for its cozy ambiance, hotel was the perfect place to start our adventure. After dinner, we had a brief chance to stroll through Manavgat’s vibrant center, where we picked up some local souvenirs—a reminder of our time in this scenic town.
Today, our journey took us to the suburbs of Antalya, where we visited a jewelry factory specializing in the crafting of various precious stones. Here, we were introduced to the intricate and delicate art of jewelry making, from selecting rare stones to the careful craftsmanship that goes into each piece. The visit provided a unique opportunity to gain insight into an important local industry, renowned for its high-quality jewelry production. Learning about the origins, cuts, and settings of these stones was fascinating, as the factory showcased not only Turkish favorites like turquoise but also other global gemstones.
Our next stop was equally captivating—a genuine leather shop featuring some of Turkey’s finest leather goods. As we entered, we were treated to an unexpected yet impressive fashion show, presenting the store’s latest winter collection. Models displayed exquisite leather jackets, coats, and accessories that combined both style and practicality, with designs influenced by both traditional Turkish aesthetics and contemporary trends. This experience offered an intriguing glimpse into Turkey’s leather fashion industry, known worldwide for its craftsmanship and quality. Many of us were inspired to browse the collection afterward, with some even adding a piece or two to our wardrobes.
The morning wrapped up with a visit to the famous Düden Waterfalls, located just by the Mediterranean Sea in Antalya. The waterfalls were a sight to behold—cascading water framed by lush greenery, set against the scenic backdrop of the coastline. This natural wonder provided a moment of tranquility and beauty, contrasting nicely with the bustling city atmosphere that awaited us in the afternoon.
In the afternoon, we headed back into the heart of Antalya, where we discovered the lively and touristic side of the city. Known for its blend of historical landmarks and modern shops, Antalya’s center buzzes with energy. Here, we had the chance to explore local markets, admire Ottoman-era architecture, and shop for end-of-season deals on everything from Turkish textiles to handmade ceramics. The city offered a myriad of treasures, and we eagerly navigated through the crowded alleys and bustling shops.
As the day wound down, we were transported to a hotel on the outskirts of the city, set in a peaceful area away from the busy center. This would be our home for the next two days—a chance to unwind and continue our exploration of Antalya at a more relaxed pace.
Reflecting on the day’s adventures, we marveled at the cultural and natural diversity Antalya has to offer, from artisan jewelry and high-quality leather fashion to breathtaking landscapes and a rich historical heritage. It was an unforgettable day, offering a true taste of Turkey’s charm, both old and new.
